Fine Family Academy of Educators Awards

The Fine Family Academy of Educators Awards for Educational Excellence recognizes and celebrates our outstanding educators and their exceptional achievements in education. Learn more about the Academy and membership.

Nominations may be submitted by individual faculty or staff members - including supervisors, direct reports, and peers. Self-nominations are also welcome.

The nominator must provide the nominee鈥檚 name, title and department, along with the following documentation:

Required:

  • An updated curriculum vitae
  • A nominating statement (not to exceed two pages) should provide details describing the nominee鈥檚 contribution relevant to the award category. If the statement exceeds two pages, only the first two pages will be reviewed.

Optional:

Up to two letters of support (not to exceed one-page each) highlighting the nominee鈥檚 contributions. If the letter exceeds one page, only the first page will be reviewed.

The nomination statement and the curriculum vitae(s) are the primary documents reviewed by the Awards Committee in selecting recipients. Nominators should ensure that the letters clearly articulate the nominee's accomplishments, particularly those that may not be evident from the CV, and that they align with the award criteria.

This award recognizes outstanding innovation in teaching, curriculum design, or assessment. Nominees may be individuals or teams. Teams may include both members and non-members of the Academy; however, only Fine Family Academy of Educators (FFAOE) members will be officially recognized as recipients. Nominations should clearly articulate the educational innovation and its impact. This award is meant to encourage FFAOE faculty members to creatively apply their talents to improve the experience of our learners.

A nominating statement (not to exceed two pages) should provide details of the nominee鈥檚 contribution, using Glassick鈥檚 criteria for scholarly work as a guide. If the statement exceeds two pages, only the first two pages will be reviewed.

This award recognizes excellence in educational scholarship that has been disseminated through presentations, publications, or other scholarly outlets. Nominees may be individuals or teams. Teams may consist of members and non-members, but only Academy members will be recognized as award recipients. Nominations should demonstrate how the work contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning. We seek to define scholarship broadly. According to Boyers Model of Scholarship it can include:

  • Scholarship of Discovery: This research contributes to the knowledge and the intellectual climate, and focuses not only on outcomes but the process.
  • Scholarship of Integration: Work which makes connections across disciplines, seeks to interpret, draw together, and bring new insight to bear on original research.
  • Scholarship of Application: Considers how scholarly investigation and knowledge can be applied to identify problems/issues.
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Link between educational theory and knowledge and application to teaching practice. For example, teaching which stimulates active learning and encourages critical, creative thinking.

A nominating statement (not to exceed two pages) should provide details of the nominee鈥檚 contribution, using Glassick鈥檚 criteria for scholarly work as a guide. If the statement exceeds two pages, only the first two pages will be reviewed.
