Move Well. Age Well. Live Fully.
Advancing healthy aging through research, education, community partnership, and clinical translation.
Monarch Balance for Life is an interdisciplinary research and community engagement initiative at 91Ƭ focused on healthy aging, mobility, balance, cognition, and fall prevention. We connect research, student education, community partnership, and clinical translation to support safer movement and meaningful participation across later life.
For Clinicians and Partners
How can Monarch Balance for Life support your work?
Monarch Balance for Life collaborates with clinicians, researchers, community organizations, healthcare systems, and industry partners to advance healthy aging, mobility, and fall prevention. We offer expertise in balance, gait, cognition, falls risk assessment, rehabilitation, and the translation of research evidence into clinical and community practice.
Ways to Work with Our Team
We provide educational talks and workshops for clinicians, older adults, caregivers, community organizations, and professional groups. Topics may be customized to meet the needs of the intended audience and may include:
- Understanding multi-dimensional fall risk
- Evidence-based approaches to fall prevention
- Balance, gait, and mobility across the aging process
- Cognition and its relationship to mobility and falls risk
- Fear of falling and self-limitation of activity
- Responding safely after a fall
- Supporting healthy aging and continued participation
We develop continuing education and professional-development programming for physical therapists and other healthcare professionals who work with older adults. Programming may address current evidence, clinical assessment, intervention planning, case application, and emerging approaches to geriatric rehabilitation and fall prevention.
Our team welcomes opportunities to collaborate on research related to:
- Healthy aging
- Falls risk and prevention
- Gait, balance, and mobility
- Cognition-mobility relationships
- Physical activity and functional participation
- Clinical assessment and outcome measurement
- Rehabilitation and community-based interventions
Collaborations may include study development, measurement selection, data analysis, student mentorship, dissemination, and grant development.
We collaborate with researchers and technology developers to evaluate equipment, wearable sensors, assessment tools, and digital health technologies intended for use with older adults or rehabilitation populations.
Depending on the project, our team may contribute expertise in:
- Feasibility and usability testing
- Reliability and validity studies
- Comparison with established clinical or laboratory measures
- Protocol development
- Clinical interpretation
- Pilot testing with relevant populations
We provide consultation to healthcare organizations, community programs, research teams, and industry partners seeking evidence-informed guidance related to healthy aging, mobility, fall risk, and geriatric rehabilitation.
Consultation may include:
- Program development
- Assessment and outcome-measure selection
- Research design
- Clinical or community implementation
- Staff education
- Interpretation and translation of research evidence
- Development of aging-related services or initiatives
Monarch Balance for Life is not currently providing routine individual fall-risk assessments or operating an on-site fall assessment clinic. Comprehensive assessments may be conducted as part of specific research studies when enrollment is active. We are also exploring opportunities to integrate assessment services into 91Ƭ’s on-campus Faschini Wallach Center for Restorative Therapies.
