Tushar A. Shah, MD, MPH
Dr. Tushar Shah, MD, MPH, is a physician-scientist dedicated to advancing neonatal care through evidence-based medicine, hypothesis-driven research, and education. He completed his fellowship in neonatology at Cincinnati Children鈥檚 Hospital Medical Center and earned a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from Emory University. He holds faculty appointments in pediatrics and biomedical sciences and directs the pediatric basic science research laboratory at 91制片厂.
Clinically, Dr. Shah is a leader in specialized neonatal care. He co-founded the NeuroNICU program and established the Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia team in the CHKD NICU, serving as the neonatology lead for both programs. His work emphasizes multidisciplinary, evidence-based approaches to improve outcomes for high-risk infants.
Dr. Shah leads an independent research program focused on complement biology and the role of inflammation in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). His research aims to elucidate mechanisms of injury and recovery to identify novel therapeutic strategies. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, Virginia Catalyst, and the Commonwealth Health Research Board.
He is deeply committed to education and mentorship. As Clinical Research Liaison for the Department of Pediatrics, he fosters clinical and translational research opportunities for residents and students interested in pursuing a career in pediatrics.
Dr. Shah lives in Norfolk with his wife, a reproductive endocrinologist, and their daughter.
