Dr. Andria Tatem’s commitment to medicine began early, inspired by a desire to care for children and serve others. Raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. Tatem pursued a path rooted in service, education, and community engagement-values that continue to shape professional and academic work. Prior to medical training, Dr. Tatem served as a Special Education teacher at Lake Taylor High School and as a laboratory technician in the United States Army, experiences that reinforced a lifelong dedication to equity, collaboration, and public service. These formative roles ultimately brought Dr. Tatem back to Eastern Virginia Medical School, where the journey into medicine began and where Dr. Tatem now proudly serves as a physician and educator.

At EVMS, Dr. Tatem is committed to advancing medical education, mentorship, and inclusive excellence. With a strong focus on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, Dr. Tatem strives to create a supportive and equitable environment for faculty, staff, and learners across undergraduate and graduate medical education. Clinically, Dr. Tatem is dedicated to providing high‑quality, equitable pediatric care to the Greater Hampton Roads community. Returning home to serve the region that shaped both personal and professional growth remains central to Dr. Tatem’s mission as a clinician, educator, and community leader.
