Which Fulbright opportunity is right for you?
Fulbright U.S. Scholar
- Longer-term opportunity: Typically supports international teaching, research, or a combination of both for 2–12 months, depending on the award.
- Greater flexibility in project design: Applicants propose a specific project and identify appropriate international partners or host institutions.
- Competitive annual competition: Applications are submitted once a year. The deadline for the 2027-2028 competition is the September 15, 2026.
Fulbright Specialist
- Short-term opportunity: 2–6 weeks, at international host institutions.
- Project-based collaboration: Specialists share their expertise through activities such as curriculum development, faculty development, institutional planning, training, or other collaborative projects.
- Host-driven projects: International institutions identify specific needs and request specialists with the relevant expertise.
- Rolling application process: There is no single annual application deadline; eligible applicants can apply to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster on a rolling basis.
