Kate Ryan-Smith, MD
Dr. Ryan-Smith grew up in New York, and decided to pursue her pediatric residency training at EVMS/CHKD because of the amazing and welcoming nature of the program.
While at CHKD, Dr. Ryan-Smith developed a passion for taking care of the most fragile babies, working with their families and being there for them during the most difficult decisions they had to make.
She relocated with her husband to North Carolina to complete her fellowship training at Duke University and to start their family, which has now grown to two children and two dogs.
Dr. Ryan-Smith returned to CHKD because of her appreciation for the critical and difficult work carried out by the NICU staff. She also wanted to give back to the residency program that had such a profound influence on her life.
